At the Niagara Taiji Center, we believe in promoting a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. Although the curriculum is extensive, everyone learns at a pace that is comfortable for them. There is a saying in Tai Chi - "Slow learning is quick progress, fast learning is slow progress". A strong emphasis is placed on feeling and understanding the principles or concepts of Tai Chi through supplementary exercises and interactive partner work. Absorbing the concepts deepens the practice of the tai chi form, which enhances one's strength and health benefits.

A typical class will involve:

  • Standing meditative postures
  • Exercises to improve strength, suppleness, and balance (chi gung and nei gung routines)
  • Practice of the tai chi forms
  • Interactive partner drills

The full curriculum consists of:

  • Nei gung (internal energy or power) exercises and routines
  • Various meditative and strengthening postures (known as zhan zhuang)
  • Large Frame 88 posture form
  • Fast Frame or Application Frame form
  • Old frame 108 posture form (highly advanced form)
  • Push hands drills (interactive)
  • Weapons (advanced)
  • Combat training (advanced and only for those who wish to explore this avenue)
